2007 Updates

NOTE:  Please email me if you would like to be notified when this site is updated.  There are two major types: updates / photos and parts for sale.  If you would like to know when either or both are updated, please email me, and I will drop you a note when new things are added!  (This also will give me an idea of who is visiting our site!)

It was opening night at Clinton County Speedway, in Lock Haven, PA.  After a slow start at Susquehanna, we were hoping to step it up a bit for this race.  Heat race number two looked like we were on track.  Tracy started from the pole and lead every lap for a win.  High hopes for the feature were dashed, as on lap five, we got into a crash while running in second place.  We'll get the car back on track for next weekend's ASCS race at McKean County Speedway in Smethport, PA.  See you at the races!

Potter Motorsports ventured to Susquehanna Speedway for the inaugural American Sprint Car Series Mid-Atlantic event.  ASCS is a national series that sanctions races throughout the United States but is relatively new to Pennsylvania.  20 of the best 360 race cars were on hand including 410 hot shoes Chad Layton and Lucas Wolfe.  The competition was tough and really beat our driver down.  After two years and only 5 or 6 races, Tracy was pretty far out of practice.  We were able to keep up with the back of the pack but that was really about it.  And the car (and driver) came home in one piece.  That's a plus.

For anyone who might be attending the Nittany Mall show next week, our car will be located nearest the outside entrance between Macy's and The Bon Ton, right in front of the Gap and the Express.  Hope to see you there!

February 19, 2007

Well here we are in January.  It has been 18 months since our last update and it seems like only 18 days.  Time is flying here, and so much has happened!  Unfortunately not a lot of it has been racing.

Our daughter Manna, who was born in April of 2005 is now running all over the house, and we can hardly keep up with her.  Tracy has been working diligently at our manufacturing business and also part time for PSU.  If this wasn’t enough to keep us busy we are in the process of building a new race shop.

We needed to build a shop closer to where we are living, as it has been becoming harder and harder to find the time to work on the race cars.  With the original Potter Motorsports shop located in Karthaus, an hour round trip away, something had to give.

The new shop (affectionately dubbed "the Garage Mahal") is 2,400 square feet, which will allow us to set up our equipment better and also house hauler, when necessary.  Right now the exterior of the shop is nearly complete, and we are focusing on the interior.  This shop will be fully equipped to work on race cars.  Installed will be TIG and MIG welding, small sheet metal shear and brake, lathe, frame jig, and all the other tools needed to maintain and build racecars.  We hope to be working from this new shop by April.

Over the last two seasons we have only raced about five times each season.  As anyone in racing knows it is extremely hard to be competitive with so few races being run.  With the new shop being only a few steps away, we hope to be able to race more in 2007.  Tentatively we plan on racing at Fairgrounds Speedway at Clinton County with a few visits to other tracks, as time and funding allow.  Come and see our sprint car February  26 through March 4 as we will be participating in the Nittany Race Days Expo at the Nittany Mall in State College, PA.  You can also find us at the Dubois Mall car show in Dubois, PA, on March 18 through 24.
